  2. Dear Mrs Yollis,
what a beautiful National Park you visited. The video of the park really was beautiful and I must say didn`t the wild life enjoy your visit too. Bianca,Paul and I visited a national park on the weekend too. However ours was a beautiful rainforest. It was truly wonderful. Some of the tallest trees in the world are found in this national park. However we didn`t see no wildlife or flowers. Really cannot get over just how beautiful the flowers are. As for those rock climbers I think I will leave it up to them. I really have enjoyed your post and once again thankyou from your friend down under AA.

  3. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

I really like this post about Joshua Tree National Park because you put a lot of images. No, I have not been to the National Park. I noticed that Headstone Rock looked really big, and how big is it? What was your favorite part about it?

    Sincerely,
    Nick

  4. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

I have always found interest in National Parks, but I have never experienced one. I'm hoping to go to Joshua Tree National Park during my summer break.

When I become a hockey player, and I get eliminated from the playoffs I will use National Parks' hiking trails and climbing rock to exercise.

    Sincerely,
    Ben

  6. @ Lyudmila and class,

Thanks for a nice comment! We hope the weather is improving over there in Russia!

Joshua Tree National Park is a beautiful place. The stone granite outcroppings were spectacular! When people look at the desert, they sometimes think that nothing is living there. As you can see from the photos, there were lots of blooming cacti and wildflowers. Most flowers are small to limit evaporation.

    @ AA,

It really was a lovely place to visit. It was my first time there, but my husband had been there many times several years ago. In fact, he used be one of those climbers! Headstone Rock was one of the first climbs he did in Joshua Tree.

What rain forest did you visit? Is it a national park of Australia?

    @ Nick,

Joshua Tree National Park was an outstanding adventure! Yes, Headstone Rock is very tall. The flat face measures 50 feet! I climbed to the base of it, and I could see the metal hooks called pitonsthat the climbers use as a route up the face. Headstone Rock had two routes that I could see.

My favorite part was seeing all the cacti (or cactuses) in bloom!

    @ Ben,

Joshua Tree National Park is about a 3-4 hours drive from where we live. It is east of Los Angeles. Maybe your family will visit there some day!

    @ Aaliyah,

YOU have become an excellent commenter lately! I love that!

It is really worth it to visit National Parks. They are all over the country!

Some good ones here in California are: Joshua Tree, Yosemite, Death Valley, Sequoia/Kings Canyon, Lassen Volcanic, Redwood, and the Channel Islands!

    Sincerely,
    Mrs. Yollis

  7. @ Mrs Yollis,
    thankyou for your commet.
To get to this rainforest you must drive along the Great Ocean road. The Great Ocean road is one of the most spectacular scenic drives as it simply takes your breath away with the beautiful coast of beaches which run for miles. Then you arrive in Lorne which is where the rainforest is at. This rainforest is called the Otway Range which is a nation park. I did find out that the animals which live in the Otway Range are Wallabies,Koalas, ring tailed possums and grey kangaroos.
It really is a must to do when you come for a visit as well as rock climbing. How brave is Mr Yollis to climb Headstone Rock well done.

  9. Hey Mrs.Yollis class
I like the video of your class being at Joshua Tree National Park. Was it fun being at the national park? Did you make it to the top of the hill where you were rock climbing?

  12. Dear Mrs.Yollis,

  13. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

As a child growing up, I remember my parents taking my younger brother and me on road trips to both Lake Tahoe and Yosemite. Our family plan and route was always go visit Lake Tahoe first for a couple of days, then drive to Yosemite. My father really loves the outdoors and we would take this trip almost every summer! What I remember most about Yosemite were the beautiful waterfalls, tram rides in and around Yosemite, rafting and eating outdoors where squirrels would come right up to you for food. I personally never tried rock climbing there, and to be honest, I don't know if I would be brave enough to try! :-)

Has anyone been to Yosemite? If yes, what do you like most about Yosemite?

    Sincerely,

    Young (Ethan's mom)

  14. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

Your post on Joshua Tree National Park is fantastic! My favorite picture on the photopeach video was the one with visitors climbing the big mountain. I hope someday I will visit there.

    Sincerely,
    Kendall

P.S. The only national park I have been to is Sequoia National Park.

  16. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

Watching those images, sends a very tranquil sensation to my mind. Imagining the whole desert at peace with its local inhabitants of lizards, quails and cactus is pleasing. only add the Joshua tree to the whole scene then you have a perfect National park story!

Thank you for sharing your desert expedition with us.

  18. Hi, Third Graders,

I've been to lots of National Parks in the U.S. Arches in Utah is one of my favorite--love all the great rock formations. Kendall visited us in Germany in April and she went to the Black Forest, which is kind of like a national park here in Germany...

  19. Dear Mrs Yollis' Class
I hope that we will get to visit the Joshua Tree National Park one day. We have been camping in Yosemite and it was awesome. A bit scary at night when we thought there might be bears around !!
We visit the Lake District National Park here in England - that is beautiful too.

  20. Hi Mrs Yollis

What a beautiful National Park. We are learning about Australia and our identity. One of our most famous natural landmark is Uluru. You have a wonderful site and we have added you to our blog list. We hope to hear from you class soon in Sydney, Australia.

  21. @ AA,

Thanks for the information. I looked up the park on Google. It looks beautiful!

Yes, it was brave for Mr. Yollis to climb Headstone Rock. In fact, the time he spent in Joshua Tree National Park was in preparation for a big climb. About 15 years ago, Mr. Yollis and his climbing partner scaled Mt. Whitney! Mt. Whitney is the highest point in the lower 48 states and measures 14,505 feet (4,421 m). They trained several days a week for one year and achieved their goal. It was fun for me to see the climbs they did at Joshua Tree.

    @ Gregory,

Thanks for visiting and for leaving such a nice comment.

Yes, I loved being in Joshua Tree National Park. We did make it to the top of Ryan Mountain. It was 1.5 miles to the top. We had to stop a few times, but it was worth it. The view from the top was outstanding. We could see the outcroppings on the desert floor. They looked so small from up there. For example, Headstone Rock looked like a little dot!

    @ Tanner,

Thanks for taking the time to visit and for leaving a great comment!

Too bad you missed Mt. Rushmore. I was there once. It is hard to believe that Gutzon Borglum could create such a fabulous granite sculpture right in the mountain!

Someday I'd love to see Vancouver Island. It looks beautiful!

    Sincerely,
    Mrs. Yollis

  22. @ Aalisha, (From Mrs. Ranney's class)

Thanks for leaving such a wonderful comment! I like how you gave detail sentences about what you liked. That's the sign of a good writer! Scrambling up Headstone Rock was a real thrill!

    @ Mrs. Kim, (Ethan's mom)

I love your comments! You always add some personal connection to the post and that makes the comment conversation so great! Thank you!

Yosemite National Park is only a few hours drive for us, and I hope families take the time to get there. I went there about ten years ago. My husband and I enjoyed hiking up Yosemite Falls and Bridal Veil Falls. It was in the summer, so the water levels were low, but it was very beautiful. It was so hot, I took a swim in the Merced River! :-)

    @ Kendall,

Thank for a fantastic comment. I'm glad you liked the climbing photos. It was hard to believe that people could scale those vertical walls!

I have been to Sequoia National Park too. Sequoia trees live over 2,000 years! Now that's a lifespan!

What did you do in Sequoia National Park?

@ Ofer and Helena, (Gal's parents)

Thank you for being such a big part of Family Blogging Month! We appreciate you!

Joshua Tree National park is amazing. It is only about a 3-4 hour drive and well worth it. There is camping available or hotels outside of the park. Thank you for your compliment about my picture. The Joshua tree is quite unusual!

Thank you for taking the time to be a big part of our Family Blogging Month!

Joshua Tree National Park was a very tranquil place. That is the perfect word for it. Although it looks barren from a distance, there was a lot of life going on in the desert. Have you ever been to a National Park?

    @ Solana, (from Huzzah)

Welcome! You are very fortunate to live near a beautiful park. Do you ever go hiking in McDonald Wood Park? What kinds of trees are there?

Thanks for your compliment about our blog. Huzzah blog is fabulous too!

    @ Aunt Garnett (Kendall's aunt)

I must say, Kendall's family has been a big part of our Family Blogging Month! Thank you!

Arches National Park is a place I hope to visit one day!

Yes, Kendall has been telling us about her trip to Germany. She even brought me back a tote bag from Germany's Black Forest. She is going to publish a post about her trip!

    @ Amber, (Kendall's great aunt)

I hope you do get a chance to see Joshua Tree. It is spectacular! I know what you mean about the sounds at night when you're in a tent. Your imagination can really get the best of you! :-)

Lake District National Park of England is a place I have heard about, but haven't ever visited. Perhaps one day!

@ Year 5 and Mrs. Donnelly,

Thanks for visiting our blog! I just added you to our blogroll. :-)

Uluru is a place we have heard about from Kate’s grandmother , who used to live in Australia. It sounds like an incredible place to visit. Have you been?

  25. I really enjoyed reading about your wonderful trip to Joshua Tree. After reading your blog I would love to take my children ages 14, 13 and 7 to visit this beautiful park. I live in Northern California and I believe a road trip to Joshua Tree will be in our near future. Thank you for your wonderful post.

  26. Dear Mrs. Yollis and Class,
My husband and I have been to several National Parks and have always been inspired by the beauty found within each of them. I must admit, however, that I have never been much of a desert person. After viewing your beautiful pictures, I have decided that a trip to Joshua Tree National Park might be just the thing I need to help me change my mind about the desert regions. One is never too old to learn new things and discover new places! Your pictures and information about this particular park have spurred me on and inspired me to want to visit a desert area.

    Sincerely,
    Marsha Cooke (Kendall's grandmother)

  27. My fondest childhood memories were in Joshua Tree. My father took us camping there once a month. It is important to see and experience nature. We tend to get lost in all the brick and mortar that surrounds us and we forget how amazing nature really is.

  28. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

I really enjoyed reading your post, and loved the video! It is a beautiful park to enjoy nature. I think the Mohave Yucca is very interesting!

I visited this park over spring break. I had a fun time, and took many similar photos as you did. We also saw many Joshua trees and cacti.

Did you see the forty foot high Joshua tree?

    Your former student,
    Sarah
